Welcome

"In the name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful.Muhammad (May Allah be pleased with him) said

"Peace be upon him, who follows the right path. Furthermore I invite you to Islam, and if you become a Muslim you will be safe, and Allah will double your reward, and if you reject this invitation of Islam you will be committing a sin by misguiding your Arisiyin (peasants). (And I recite to you Allah's Statement:)
'O people of the scripture! Come to a word common to you and us that we worship none but Allah and that we associate nothing in worship with Him, and that none of us shall take others as Lords beside Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: Bear witness that we are Muslims (those who have surrendered to Allah).' (3:64).

10 Prophet Muhammad Quotes: A Taste of Honey

Sufism is one of the great mystical traditions in human history, and has produced countless numbers of enlightened beings through the centuries. It is a system of self-purification and development based on the life and character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). His was an example of how to live in perfect harmony and love with one’s Creator and His creation. In this post I would like to give an introduction to his beautiful character through a few Prophet Muhammad quotes, for the benefit of those not familiar with them, and also as a taste of honey for those who are.

Prophet Muhammad Quotes, #1

“Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him.”

Prophet Muhammad Quotes, #2

There is a polish for everything that takes away rust; and the polish for the heart is the remembrance of Allah.”

Why do Muslims Pray Five Times a Day?

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was forty years of age when Angel Gabriel appeared to inform him that he was a Prophet of the One God. Prior to that event he was, himself, unaware of this status of his, yet he never worshipped the idols of Arabia. There were others, known as Hunafa, who also refused to worship idols. They worshipped One God, made the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to His Holy Temple in Makkah built by Abraham. And they sacrificed animals annually in commemoration of Abraham’s trial of sacrifice of his (then) only son, Ishmael, peace be upon him.

Sometime after that first visit, the Angel came one day and taught the Prophet how to perform ablution before prayer, i.e., wash hands, mouth, nostrils and entire face, then wash arms up to the elbows, then pass wet hands on the head, and, finally, wash the feet. The angel also taught him how to stand bare-footed in prayer, to bow down and to prostrate before the Lord-God. Some eleven years later, the Prophet was summoned in a miraculous celestial journey by night from Makkah to Jerusalem and then into the heavens to the special Divine presence. He then received the obligation of ‘five times daily prayers’ directly from the Lord-God Himself, and he returned to announce to all those who had faith in Allah Most High that the institution of (five times daily) prayers was the vehicle through which they, too, could journey to the divine presence.

Angel Gabriel subsequently came to him one day and led him in prayer five times - once in the early morning (after dawn but before sunrise), once in the early afternoon (after the sun had crossed the zenith but before mid-afternoon), once in the later afternoon (but before the setting of the sun), once after the sun had set, and finally in the early hours of the night (after twilight had ended). On each occasion he led the prayers at the earliest time possible. He then returned the next day and again led the Prophet in the same five times prayers, but this time he chose the latest possible time for each prayer. He then announced that these were the five times of compulsory prayer, and that each prayer was to be performed within the timeframe just established. In addition to these compulsory prayers there are, of course, voluntary prayers that could be performed at any time, but best of all in the early hours of the morning before dawn.

Since there is but One God, and hence but one Truth, and only one true religion (i.e., the religion of ‘Abraham’ from whose name the name ‘Brahma’ appears to have originated) the implication is that whoever worships the One true God must pray these five times compulsory prayers every day. Anyone who does not perform the five times daily prayers would eventually live an essentially pagan life since the compulsory five times daily prayers are the very foundation of the religious way of life.

When Jesus, the true Messiah, peace be upon him, returns, he, also, will pray to Allah Most High five times a day in the same way that Angel Gabriel taught Prophet Muhammad to pray, and in the same way that Muslims pray to this day (without chairs, benches, pews, etc.) They stand barefooted before Allah Most High in prayer, then bow down, sit flat, and prostrate themselves with their faces on the blessed earth. They do so ‘five times a day’, and will continue to do so, Insha Allah, in defiance of that godless world-order that is waging war on them, and regardless of the price they pay for that defiance. And they do so with the absolute conviction that Truth must eventually triumph over its wicked godless enemies.

They also recite in every prayer the opening Surah (chapter) of the Qur’an in which they ask to be guided “on the straight path – the path of those whom Thou hast blessed, not the path of those who earn Thine anger, nor of those who go astray.” It should be clear to our readers that those who are today waging unjust war on Islam in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Holy Land and elsewhere, most certainly earn Allah’s anger, and those misguided Muslims or non-Muslims who support such people, while worshipping at the alter of a US Visa, or for whatever other foolish reason, are most certainly a people who have gone astray.

"He who ANGERS you, conquers you."

We all may have come across many situations where our patience has been tested. It could have been due to someone arguing with us, insulting us, mistreating us, not listening to us, not following our directions, etc etc the list could be endless. How we, as Muslims, react under this situation would become a representation of what Islam is to the Non-Muslims. If we shout, curse, swear, hit, or break things around us, then we are wrongly portraying the image of an ideal Muslim.

We should follow the guidance given in the Qur'an and Hadith in regards to how we should manage our ANGER - which is a common human emotion:

"The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allâh orders the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend. (34) But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient - and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and of a high moral character) in this world. (35) And if an evil whisper from Shaitân (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam]) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allâh. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower." (The Qur'an: 41.34-36)

"And the (faithful) slaves of the Most Gracious (Allâh) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness. "(The Qur'an: 25.63)

Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] passed by some people who were wrestling. He [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] asked, "What is this?" They said: "So-and-so is the strongest, he can beat anybody." Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said, "Shall I not tell you who is even stronger then him? The man who, when he is mistreated by another, controls his anger, has defeated his own shaytaan and the shaytaan of the one who made him angry." (Reported by al-Bazzaar, and Ibn Hijr said its isnaad is saheeh. Al-Fath, 10/519)

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah [RadhiAllahu Anhu] that a man said to Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam]: “Advise me.” He [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said: “Do not get angry.” He repeated his question several times and He [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said: “Do not get angry.” (Bukhaari #5765)

‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib [RadhiAllahu Anhu] said: It may be known whether a person is really patient at the time of anger. The beginning of anger is madness and the end of it is regret, and anger cannot be justified by offering a humble apology. Calamities may come because of anger. It was said to al-Shu’bi: Why is a person who is quick to get angry also quick to calm down, and the one who is slow to get angry is slow to clam down. He said: Because anger is like fire; that which is easier to start is easier to extinguish.

So, how should we [Muslims] manage our ANGER as per the guidance from the Qur'an and Hadith (not in any particular order):

1.Remember Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala)

“And remember your Lord when you forget” [The Qur'an: 18.24]
Usually in times of anger, we tend to forget Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala), therefore forcing ourselves to remember Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) at this time will Insha'Allah remind us of the guidance given for managing anger.

2.Seek refuge from Shaytan; Turn away; Show forgiveness not revenge

“Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them). (199) And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitân (Satan) then seek refuge with Allâh. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (200) Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitân (Satan), they remember (Allâh), and (indeed) they then see (aright). (201)"(The Qur'an: 7:199-201)
Say "Audhu billahi minash shaytan nir-rajeem." - Translation: I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the outcast. Turn around and walk away if you have to and come back only when your anger is under control.

3.Change positions

It was narrated that Abu Dharr [RadhiAllahu Anhu] said: Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said to us: “If one of you gets angry when he is standing, let him sit down, and if that does not take away his anger, then let him lie down.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4782; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

4. Be Silent

Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said: "If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent." (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 1/329; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 693, 4027).
"This is because in most cases, the angry person loses self control and could utter words of kufr (from which we seek refuge with Allaah), or curses, or the word of divorce (talaaq) which would destroy his home, or words of slander which would bring him the enmity and hatred of others. So, in short, keeping silent is the solution which helps one to avoid all that."

5. Extinguish it with Water

AbuWa'il al-Qass said: We entered upon Urwah ibn Muhammad ibn as-Sa'di. A man spoke to him and made him angry. So he stood and performed ablution; he then returned and performed ablution, and said: My father told me on the authority of my grandfather Atiyyah who reported Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] as saying: Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution. (Abu Dawud 4766)
May I suggest drinking water as well to cool down

6. Imagine the Respect you gain in this World and the Reward you gain in the HereAfter

Rasulullah [SallAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] said: “Allah will not increase a person who forgives others except in honour.” (Muslim, 2588)
Remind yourself of how much respect you can gain by controling your anger and handling the situation with tolerance as compared to the respect you can lose by yelling, cursing, swearing, hitting, etc.

There are so many more Ayat and Ahadith in regards to anger, however I will end this article here since it has already gotten so long and I do not wish the reader to skip over such precious guidance.

Lastly, however, I want to leave you with a quote from one of the literary figures:
"Beware of the pride of anger, for it leads to the humiliation of apology."

JazakAllahu Khayran for reading till the end. Insha'Allah May we all follow this guidance given in the Qur'an and Hadith related to anger in our daily life.

and Allâh (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.

Verily, After Hardship Comes Ease

Verily, After Hardship Comes Ease
By Shaykh ‘Aaidh Al-Qarni

At a time in which the Muslims are beset with trials from every periphery, it is a time when Muslims should continue being Muslims, only better Muslims.

I would say to my dear brothers and sisters in Islam “don’t be sad”; if you are on the true religion – believing in One God and all the Messengers sent to mankind, then don’t be sad.

Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala says in Qur’aan

“…Bear with patience whatever befalls you….” (31:17) and “Be not sad, surely Allaah is with us.” (9:40)

Our Prophet Sall Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

“Verily, if Allaah loves a people, He makes them go through trials. Whoever is satisfied, for him is contentment, and whoever is angry upon him is wrath.” [Tirmidhi]

Being sad is not encouraged in Islam

“So do not become weak, nor be sad…” (3:139)

“And grieve not over them, and be not distressed because of what they plot.” (16:127)

Sadness prevents one from action instead of compelling one towards it. The heart does not benefit through grief. The most beloved thing to the devil is to hinder the worshipper in the path of Allaah. The Muslim must repel sadness and fight in any way that is permissible in Islam.

Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala is sufficient for us

“Allaah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allaah. No harm touched them; and they followed the good Pleasure of Allaah. And Allaah is the owner of Great Bounty.” (3:173-174)

“And put your trust in Allaah if you are believers indeed…” (5:23)

“O you who believe! Seek help in patience and the prayer…” (2:153)

By leaving your affairs to Allaah, by depending on Him, by trusting in His promise, by being pleased with His decree, by thinking favourably of Him, and by waiting patiently for His help, you reap some of the greater fruits of faith. When you incorporate these qualities, you will be at peace concerning the future, because you will depend on your Lord for everything. As a result, you will find care, help, protection and victory.

Pre-ordainment

“No calamity befalls on earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees – before We bring it into existence.” (57:22)

The pen has dried, and the pages have been lifted: all events shall come to pass have already been written. Whatever has befallen you was not meant to escape you, and whatever has escaped you was not meant to befall you: if this belief were to be firmly ingrained in your heart, then all hardships and difficulty would become ease and comfort.

The Prophet Sall Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,

“Whoever Allaah wishes good for, He inflicts him (with hardship).” (Bukhaari)

For those who are afflicted with disaster, glad tidings await them: so remain patient and happy with your Lord.

“He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned.” (21:23)

Verily, with hardship, there is relief

“Verily, with hardship there is relief.” (94:6)

“Perhaps Allaah may bring victory or a decision according to His Will.” (5:52)

Prophet Ibraheem ‘alayhissalam did not feel its heat because of the help he received from Allaah.

“We (Allaah) said : O’ fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibraheem.” (21:69)

The sea would not drown Prophet Musa ‘alayhissalaam because he uttered in confident, strong and truthful manner:

“Nay verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me.” (26:62)

And the Prophet Muhammad Sall Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas radiyallahu ‘anhu:

“..Be mindful of Allaah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allaah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity… And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.” [Tirmidhi]

Accept life as it is

If you read the Qur’aan you will see that all the Prophets ‘alayhimussalaam went through trials and tribulations. Life is a test so let us learn from the best examples of our Prophets.

“Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty, ailments and were shaken.” (2:214)

We should know that if we are pleased with our Lord, He will be pleased with us. And if you are pleased with your Lord no matter what the situation is, then you will find that you have earned your Lord’s pleasure. On the other hand, there are hypocrites whom Allaah rejects their deeds. They are displeased with what Allaah sends down and they hate seeking His pleasure; thus their deeds are performed in vain.

Your recompense is with Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala

When Allaah, the Exalted takes something away from you, He compensates it with something better, but only if you are patient and seek His reward.

Prophet Muhammad Sall Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

“Whoever loses a loved one from the people of this world and then seeks recompense with his Lord, will be compensated with Paradise.”

Those who are in this world and are close to Allaah will be raised in the highest of heaven:

“Peace be upon you, because you peresevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!” (13:24)

Truly, the life of this world is short and its treasures are few. O’ afflicted ones, if you are patient you lose nothing; and though you may not perceive it, you are profiting.

Extract honey but do not break the hive

“Repel (the evil) with one which is better, then verily! He, between whom and you there was enmity (will become) as though he was a close friend.” (41:34)

“….and harm them not. And put your trust in Allaah.” (33:48)

Prophet Muhammad Sall Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,

“Verily, Allaah ordered me to keep relations with those that cut off, forgive the ones who does an injustice with me, and to give to those who withhold from me.”

“Those who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allaah loves the good-doers.” (3:134)

Remembrance of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest.” (13:28)

“Therefore remember Me and I will remember you…” (2:152)

We should not be surprised when we hear that people who remember Allah are at peace. What is truly surprising is how the negligent and unmindful survive without remembering Him.

Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala says in the Qur’aan,

“They are dead, lifeless and they know not when they will be raised up.” (16:21)

Truly, He is near when supplicated: He hears when he is called and He answers when He is invoked, so humble yourself before Him and ask of Him sincerely. Repeat His beautiful names, and mention Him alone as worthy of worship. Mention His praises, supplicate to Him: you will find then – by the will of Allaah – happiness, peace and illumination.

“So Allaah gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter.” (3:148)

Loving Allaah, knowing Him, remembering Him, seeking peace in Him, singling Him out for complete love, fear, hope and dependence – these qualities when combined in a person, constitute a sort of heaven on earth. These are qualities that bring peace to those who love Allah, a sort of peace that has no comparison in this world.

It is important that a special relationship exists in the heart between the slave and his Lord, a relationship that allows the slave to feel so close to his Lord that he requires no other. Thus, he finds company when he is alone, and he tastes the sweetness of remembering Him and supplicating to Him. Allaah’s slave will continually face hardship and difficulty until he dies, but if he has a special relationship with his Lord, all of the hardships of life will become easy for him.

The prayer….the prayer – we must return to our masajid

“O’ you who believe! Seek help in patience and the Prayer.” (2:153)

By earnestly performing the five daily prayers, we achieve the greatest of blessings: cleared off our sins and increase in rank with our Lord. Prayer is a potent remedy for our sickness, for it instills our faith in our souls.

As for those that keep away from the mosque and away from prayer, for them is unhappiness, wretchedness and an embittered life.

“For them is destruction and Allaah will make their deeds vain.” (47:8)

Take a moment to reflect

O whose mind has wandered in grief, O’ you whose eyes are loaded with tears; relax and know that your Creator aids, and that His mercy will bring you peace. And know that your reward is secure with He Who doesn’t disappoint the one who seeks to please Him. Be at peace, for after poverty comes joyous meeting, and after sleeplessness comes sound rest. O you who are oppressed in the lands, who suffer from hunger, pain, sickness and poverty, rejoice in the knowledge that you will soon be satisfied with food and that you will be happy and in good health.

Let us make these supplications, their purpose being to eliminate hardship, anxiety and grief:

“There is no worthy of worship except Allaah, the Ever Forbearing, the Most Great. There is none worthy of worship except Allaah, the Lord of the Tremendous Throne. There is none worthy of worship One Who sustains and protects all that exists, there is none worthy of worship except You, and by Your Mercy do we seek Your aid.”

“So be patient, with a good patience…” (70:5).

The Ease and Simplicity of Islam

Before I begin, I would like to make a disclaimer that this article deals with the actual laws of Islam, showing that Islam is a simple religion and not burdensome, this does not mean that life will be easy for a practicing Muslim as Allah has promised to test each and every one of us. So keep in mind that although Islam is easy to practice if you commit yourself, your level of commitment will be tested by Allah.

  • There is a misunderstanding amongst many people that Islam is difficult and a burden to follow. Such people either have an incorrect understanding of Islam or do not realize how easy the rules of Islam are to follow. Let us look at the basic teachings of Islam and see how simple, natural and easy it is to practice Islam.

The scholars of Islam have agreed that the general principle regarding things of this world is that everything is permissible unless proven otherwise. So the burden of proof actually falls on those who say that anything is prohibited. This applies to all worldly things, as for religious deeds, the deed must be proven or it will be considered an innovation. Proof for this principle can be found in the following verses,

“Allah wishes to make things easy for you, and not to make things difficult for you,” [Surah Baqarah 2:185] and “We did not place difficulty in this religion.” [Surah Hajj 22:78]

  • Also the following Hadith is proof of this principle:

“Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but aim to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings and the nights.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhari 1:2:38]

In fact, Imam Bukhari has a chapter in his Saheeh Al-Bukhari called “The chapter of the religion being easy” and ample proof for this point can be found in that chapter.

  • Firstly, the fact that everything worldly is permissible unless prohibited by sacred texts or deduction from them, is proof that Islam is not a difficult religion to follow, the amount of things that are permissible to do are far more than the obligations or prohibitions. Islam is not an ascetic religion that expects people to abandon the world and worship Allah all day in a cave, in fact, Islam prohibits such behaviour and encourages us to interact with society and live normal lives within the boundaries set by Allah, fulfilling our rights to Allah, to ourselves, and to the rest of creation.

  • Islam has given rights to all creation; we are not to harm any human, animal, plant or even ourselves unjustly. We must stay away from all sources of vice and whatever leads to them and we must fulfill our basic obligations. If we do these things, we can enjoy the permissible things of this world like family, spousal relations, physical sports or whatever you enjoy as long as you do not break the rules of Islam.

  • Islam is the natural religion; it appeals to our inner nature (Fitrah) and fulfills its basic needs without asking us to do anything unnatural. Try and find one ruling in the Quran and Sunnah that goes against human nature, you will not find it.

  • Islam is not a burden and does not ask us to do anything that we are incapable of doing, we are not required to give up our personalities, social lives or money. We are not required to pray all night or fast every day, in fact such things are prohibited. Islam emphasizes that we live a balanced life fulfilling our obligations to Allah as well as our obligations towards people and even our own selves. Try and find one command or prohibition in Islam that is beyond human ability, there is no such ruling.

  • One reason many people find Islam difficult to practice is because Satan beautifies evil deeds and makes good deeds look boring and difficult, thus we becomes lazy. Yet if one overcomes this obstacle he will find that the deeds emphasized by Islam bring true inner peace and are not too difficult, and he will begin to see the evils and wastage involved in committing sins. Take that first step and see for yourself.

  • Islam obliges us to worship Allah only, pray five times a day, fast one month a year, give two and a half percent of our excess wealth in charity, make Hajj once in our lifetime if possible and in general to be good to the rest of creation, stay away from the prohibited matters and have good character. None of these things are beyond human capabilities or unnatural, there is nothing prohibited that is necessary in our lives, rather only that which is harmful to human life is prohibited.

  • Another important point to remember is that Allah is Ar-Rahman (Most Merciful) and Al-Ghafoor (Most Forgiving) which means that if we try our best to practice Islam, and still fall into error due to our human nature and own weakness, the door to Allah’s forgiveness is always open for those who repent.

  • The basics of Islam are simple to understand and practical to implement, making Islam a universal religion that can be practiced by anyone regardless of his or her intellectual or physical capabilities. It is this pure simplicity of Islam that makes it so universally appealing and it is one of the many reasons that so many people around the world from different backgrounds convert to Islam.

What is Islam ?

Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people. For a fifth of the world's population, Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith.
